Program / Itinerary
Day 1 arrival day – village walking exploration (- / L / D)
Start our hilltribe adventure with the Lisu Hilltribe with a drive between 60-90 minutes from downtown Chiang Mai to the Lodge surrounded by mountains. Arriving at the lodge a traditional welcome drink will be served followed by a brief orientation. The lodge is tastefully decorated with hand-woven bamboo wall panels and floor mats that complement the colorful hand sewed Lisu style bed covers and cushions. It is simple, environmentally friendly, and comfortable with modern amenities. After you are settled enjoy your first lunch at the lodge.
After lunch get ready for your first exploration of the village, your Lisu guide will take you for a guided walk through the village. Start from the Ton Lung temple to view the herbal garden and through the alleys of the village, observing village life as it happens. There might as well be a chance to briefly meet the village spiritual healer (Shaman) and learn about his traditional and spiritual healing methods. Walk with our guide through rice paddies where we work together with the villagers to grow organic rice without the use of chemical pesticides and insecticides. While strolling through the green or the golden carpet of the paddy fields, depending on the season, you will learn about the various stages of rice cultivation in northern Thailand. Learn about the flora of northern Thailand and how the Lodge participates in restoring the forest ecosystem at a tree nursery of the Himmapaan Foundation, whose goal is to support and implement environmental and social projects by working with local communities in areas negatively affected by tourism. Day 2 Cycling - Tea Garden Tour - Whitewater rafting – Cooking class (B / L / D)
After a good night sleep enjoy your breakfast at the lodge before we start our first day full of exciting activities. The day is starting at around 10 am with an easy 13 kilometers (8 miles) of cycling to the village of Muang Guert. En-route stop at one of the best Tea Gardens in the region. Enjoy the amazing Tea Garden Tour, where you will be led by an experienced guide introducing you to the process of growing and harvesting tea as well as vegetation propagation to produce tea seedlings at the nursery, whilst teaching you how to pluck tea leaves. One of the oldest tea gardens in Thailand and the only in the area certified “organic” by the EU and USDA. After tasting a glass of the tea garden’s own iced tea and a cup of hot tea (served with a local snack), enjoy a delicious Thai lunch prepared for them in the restaurant of the Teahouse.
After lunch we will continue to the whitewater rafting base and go on an exciting ride. After about 45 minutes of whitewater rafting you will arrive to a traditional Thai country village. Our local truck is awaiting you to bring you on the way back to the lodge to a quick stop at a traditional Akha village for a village walk.
Returned to the lodge, take a short rest and a refreshing shower, before your first cooking class starts. Learn to prepare an authentic Thai meal (4 dishes). All the major ingredients in Thai cooking are introduced along with the concept of balancing the 5-flavor groups which are dominant in the Thai kitchen. But before the cooking can start, stroll through the vegetable, and herb garden to select and collect the ingredients you need for your menu today.
Enjoy the Thai dinner that you helped prepare yourself and let this eventful day pass by over a glass of wine. Overnight at the Lodge
Day 3 Full day trekking with bamboo rafting (B / L / D)
After breakfast at the lodge you will embark of today’s trek around 09.30 am via van to the starting point. Your guide will explain the surrounding flora and fauna along the way. This trek is of medium difficulty, as we there will be some steep climbing in the beginning for about 45 – 60 minutes, while the rest of the trail will go mostly straight and downwards. Arriving at Pong Ngan a Lahu village next to the Mae Taeng River you will serve some refreshment and a picnic lunch. After lunch you will start the bamboo rafting downriver for approximately 2 hours. Arriving at the village of Ban Sop Kai your driver is awaiting you for your return to your lodge. The total duration – depending on your fitness and water levels will be between 5 – 7 hours.
The rest of the day is at leisure. Maybe use the free time to explore more around the village and meet more locals or just have a relaxing Thai massage (chargeable)
Dinner and overnight at the lodge
Day 4 cooking class – departure (B / L / -)
Get ready for your 2nd cooking experience. Get an orientation about today’s menu and try out your cooking skills by steaming Thai sticky rice. Take a casual walk to the organic garden where we have a variety of produce and learn about the different rice harvesting stages. Collect your herbs and vegetables from the garden and use these in your cooking class.
Lunch will be served around 12.30 which include a country style Barbeque and sticky rice which you prepared earlier, as well as all the scrumptious dishes to complement this mouthwatering meal.
After checking out after lunch, it is time to say bye to your host and return to Chiang Mai Downtown.

Travel- Medical Insurance
Travel Insurance including medical repatriation insurance is mandatory on all our trips. Therefore, we strongly recommend to our guests to make sure to purchase suitable insurance package, which covers all kind of traveling problems, such as lost of luggage, any kind of cancellation of airlines or tours…….. for the value for all the length of your trip. All our tours are including local accident insurance via the operator, but they are most of the time not European standard. Make sure that it covers all the activities that you are likely to undertake, such as rafting, scuba diving, cycling, cruises, trekking etc. Many ‘free’ insurances that come with banking packages, credit cards etc., are quite inadequate to cover you, so make sure you check the policy before your travel. You are required to give a copy of your insurance policy to your tour leader upon arrival. Without proper insurance like this, we will not be allowed to join the tour as we will not able to respond adequately in case an emergency if you do not have the right insurance. Please also contact your doctor for further preparations regarding to your chosen travel destination including immunizations.
