The Thai currency is Baht. There are 100 satang in one baht, but Satang are not much used you mainly get them in the big supermarkets or malls. Coins including 25- and 50 satang pieces and baht in 1, 2, 5 and 10 baht coins. Paper currency is issued in 20 baht (green), 50baht (blue), 100 baht (red), 500baht (purple) and 1000 baht (beige).
Debit and ATM cards issued by a bank in your country can be used at ATM machines around Thailand to withdraw cash (in Thai baht only) directly from your account back home.
You can also use your cash-card (Euro-cheque card with Maestro symbol) can be used with your Pin to withdraw money directly form the many cash machine. But it is depending on the cash machine and your bank how much money you can withdraw in one day.
Credit Cards can be used for purchases at money shops, hotels and restaurants. The most accepted credit cards are Visa, Master card follow by Amex. Be aware that you might be charge with up to 5 % extra bank fees. If you withdraw from the ATM machine, remember that the amount will usually be subject to a 3 - 10 % surcharge by the bank.
Do not let your credit card out of your sight and never leave your card as guarantee or security, to avoid any kind of fraud. If you credit card is lost or stolen, please contact your credit card company to cancel it immediately
Telephone, telefaxes and internet services are numerous. The country code for Thailand is 66. Area or mobile phone number begins with '0' which you drop when you call into Thailand from outside the country.
If you like to make an international call from Thailand you must dial 001 or + to get out of Thailand, follow by the country-, area and telephone number.
You can find also telephone at your hotel with a direct access to an outside line in most hotels. Just keep an eye on the instruction at the telephone directory in your room. Please note that there is a normally 3-minute minimum call charge.
From most hotels you also can send a fax from the Reception or from the business center where also internet connections are available.Thailand is also on a GSM Network. Cellular operators in Thailand will allow you to use their SIM Cards in an imported phone if your phone is not SIM-locked. Many hotels offering Wi-Fi service free of charge. Your mobile phone will also function in Thailand and most restaurants offering free Wi-Fi so you can just log in.
You are welcome to use your home sim card and phone within Thailand (check with your service provider at home first, since some service provider are very expensive) or just using messenger, WhatsApp or line in the Wi-Fi option.
A cheap way is to purchase a Thai SIM for as little as 100 THB. This always allows you to make cheap calls in the country. You can get these kinds of SIM Cards in one of the many small mobile phone kiosk / shops at street-side or even at 7/11.
Letters and postcards to Europe, USA, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand send by Airmail requires 4-6 days. The costs are depending on the destination, size and weight of your postal. EMS, DHL, FedEx service is also available within the country.
