Thailand - Phuket Island

Phuket also called "The Pearl of the Andaman Sea" is located approximately 862 kilometers south of Bangkok. Phuket is Thailand's largest island, which is often natural resources- rocky peninsular, limestone cliffs, white powdery beaches, tranquil broad bays and tropical in-land forests contribute to making it to the most popular island and province.

Welcome to the "Pearl of the Andaman Sea"

Phuket Province covers an area of around 590 square kilometers which includes 39 other small islands around. Phuket islands length, from north to south, is 48.7 kilometers and 21.3 kilometers wide. Phuket borders on Phang-Nga Province in the north and is connected with the mainland by the Sarasin Bridge and Thep Krasattri Bridge. Phuket has only two seasons in a year - the green season (May to October) and the hot season (November to April). The months between September and October are the wettest months. The Hot season is the best period for a visit, feel the fresh sea breeze, see the clear blue sky and marvel at the crystal clear water while lying on powdery, palm-fringed beaches. Average temperatures ranges between 23 C and 33 C.

Phuket's topology is with 70 % of its area covered with mountains which is stretching from north to south, the remaining 30 percent being plains located in the central and eastern parts of the island, with whit sandy beaches along the west coast.

 

Phuket's Highlights

Khao Rang
A great view of Phuket Town, the southern part of the island, and some of the offshore islands.

Phuket Aquarium & Marine Biological Institute
The Phuket aquarium displays more than one hundred species of marine and sea life; many taken from the waters around Phuket.

Sapan Hin
The land reclamation project "Sapan Hin" provided new land is now used for parks and public facilities.

Sirey Island
Separated from the mainland of Phuket by the River Ta Jin and a shallow mangrove swamp Koh Sirey is via a bright. On the hill visit Wat Koh Sirey with a large Reclining Buddha and provides fine views the surroundings.

Phuket Sea Shell Museum
At the Phuket Sea Shell Museum you can see the world's most valuable collection of seashells.

Prom Thep Cape
Enjoy the sunset on this famous spot. The Prom Thep Cape stretch's in to the seas and forming the southern end of Phuket.

View Point
Between Kata Noi Beach and Prom Thep you can enjoy a great view over the bays of Kata Noi, Kata, and Karon, and also Koh Poo Island. It is one of the island's best views.

Phuket Zoo
Located in the south you can see Thai elephant show, Monkey show, crocodile show, birds etc as well as many Thai animals..

Thalang National Museum
Phuket's long history are on display at the Thalong National Museum.

Chalong Temple
One of the nicest temples on Phuket with many statues of monks which were abbots of the temple during the years and who are the objects of respect and recipients of Phuket people.

Pra Tong Temple
The Pra Tong shrine encloses a golden statue of Buddha that sprang up from beneath the earth long ago with a story of a young boy who tied his buffalo to what he thought was a post

Pra Nahng Sahng Temple
The grounds of the historic Pra Nahng Sahng are where the Battle of Thalang took place in 1785. Inside are three very old statues in tin of the Buddha they are the largest such in the world.

Bang Pae Water fall
Also known as the site of the Gibbon Foundation. A project which returns domesticated gibbons to the forest, Bang Pae is a small waterfall with a shady forest and thick foliage surrounding.

Kathu Water fall
Visit the stream of cascading water and a couple of small drop pools where you can take a dip. Take a look at the cascade and then cross the bridge over the stream and climb the steps up the hill. Halfway are two large artificial drop pools created by two brick wall dams. At the top of the steps and along a footpath enjoy the view of the water falling down the hill.

Ton Sai Water fall
The Trees, watercourses, and pools nearby provide one of Phuket's nicest scenes. A small falls over which pours a great volume of water during the rainy season.

Phuket's Beaches

Patong Beach
Phuket's central tourist and nighttime entertainment district, .with bars catering to every nationality. Live music, discotheques, accommodations range from budget to five-star, Shopping opportunities appears to be endless.

Nai Harn Beach
The popular swimming beach and yacht anchorage is visit by tourists as well as well from many ex pat.

Kata Beach
Kata Beach is the smallest of Phuket's three main tourist beaches but different in appearance and style from Karon or Patong. The beach itself is broad and curving, and structures bordering it are low-rise. The waters are perfect for swimming, and at the north end is a coral reef with many varied corals and fishes, which stretches out toward Koh Poo

Kata Noi Beach
Kata Noi Beach is a smaller beach with only one big hotel, the beach is superb, many fish inhabit the rocks and corals along the beach less shoreline stretching south.

Karon Beach
Karon beach is the second largest of Phuket and principal tourist beach. Large resort complexes line the road back of the beach, Restaurants, bars, tour companies other Non-hotel businesses are found in the town. The strand itself is long and broad

Kamala Beach
Kamala is a Muslim fishing village with a beautiful 2 km long beach. Accommodations ranging from guesthouse to international class, and a number of small Thai restaurants specializing in seafood for the tourist. Kamala is the perfect place to get away from it all and has little to offer in the way of entertainment for that go across the mountains to Patong.

Bang Tao Beach
One of Phuket's longest beach; Bang Tao is a large open bay. Mainly developed by luxury resorts, with plenty of places to eat and visit. At the Bang Tao Bay's north end is a smaller bay, almost completely enclosed, at the mouth of which is some fine coral.

Mai Khao Beach
Mai Khao Beach the first beach when you reach Phuket from the mainland of Thailand is still blessedly and undeveloped and you are able to walk long time without seeing anyone at all.

Nai Yang Beach
The Nai Yang Beach is on a long curving bay lined with evergreens that provide shade to picnickers for which activity this is a very popular spot. A large coral reef is home to many different species of fish, and Nai Yang is well known as the site where sea turtles come to lay their eggs during the period from November to February. First class accommodations are available and small food vendors cater to the many day-trippers that visit.
